Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors: Yasiel Puig Making Strides In Hamstring Injury Return [VIDEO]

Yasiel Puig has a long way to go before he can return from his hamstring injury, but the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder is making some progress.

According to ESPN Los Angeles, Puig has been taking live batting practice and he's set to increase his baseball activities in Arizona on Thursday when the team prepares for a trip to play the MLB-best St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.

Puig has been limited to 11 games this season, missing 33 of the 44 contests that the Dodgers have played thus far on the 2015 campaign due to his hamstring injury.

Puig appeared to be on the path to returning when he began playing in minor league games, but he had to shut it down after tightness in the hamstring began to hamper him.

The outfielder won't be able to return until he can run regularly without the tightness creeping up.

"Every time they try to let him run, at some level he feels some tightness," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told ESPN.com.

Despite losing a key piece to its lineup, Los Angeles hasn't wavered. The Dodgers have gone 21-12 in Puig's absence and are 28-17 overall, sitting in first place in the National League West with a two-game lead over the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

Puig has been out since April 24 and was batting .279 with two homers and four RBI prior to the injury.

Puig, 24, is in his third MLB campaign and owns a .304 batting average with 37 homers and 115 RBI.
