NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks To Trade Carmelo Anthony To Clippers Or Cavs, Kristaps Porzingis As The New Franchise Player

The New York Knicks have been a disappointment this season. Sporting The Knicks started the season with high hopes as the team added 2 former all-stars and a former MVP to their roster in Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. But both have failed to impress and have resulted in a 32-50 record for the Knicks as the season comes to a close. The Knicks will have to make big decisions in the offseason and it all begins with their franchise player in Carmelo Anthony.

Carmelo Anthony was thought to be the savior of the New York Knicks when he signed with the team in 2011. Since then, Anthony hasn't delivered, failing to lead the Knicks to the conference finals. Anthony's slow decline is one of the reasons the Knicks are struggling. And with the emergence of Kristaps Porzingis, Anthony has become expendable.

The New York Knicks have tried to trade Carmelo Anthony before the trade deadline but has failed to do so. But according to ESPN, the Knicks will be trying to do the same this coming offseason. However, trading Anthony will not be an easy task as his contract includes a no-trade clause. Only Anthony has the decision to remove the clause if the team decides to trade him.
The only scenario when that might happen is when the New York Knicks manage to make a trade to a team that Carmelo Anthony prefers enough to remove the clause. One of those teams could be the Los Angeles Clippers as reported by the New York Post. The Clippers have been looking for an offensive threat in the small forward position for several years now and Anthony may be the player they need.

Then again, in order for that to happen, the Clippers need to re-sign Reddick, Paul, and Griffin. Carmelo Anthony wouldn't consider joining a team that isn't a contender at this stage in his career.

But if championships are what's important for Carmelo Anthony, then joining Lebron's team is always an option. James has always liked playing with his friends and Carmelo joining him in Cleveland could be the start.
