Jim Harbaugh to leave 49ers? Front office power struggle getting worse, days as Niners coach numbered?

The relationship between San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and GM Trent Baalke has become so strained the two no longer speak to one another, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

In a rare move, the Niners recently entertained trade offers from the Cleveland Browns for Harbaugh and now it appears his "tense relationship" with front office office officials may have fueled the talks.

In addition, The Chronicle reports Harbaugh's hard-driving ways are always beginning to wear thin with his players and in the locker room, particularly among several "face of the 49ers" type players.

"If Jim and Trent have a beer together, it's not going to make Kap throw the ball four inches higher," one source told The Chronicle, providing yet another indication of just how wide the organizational rift may have expanded and all those it now seems to be impacting.

Complicating matters is that Harbaugh is in the last year of his contract and seeking a deal that would make him among the league's highest paid coaches.

Even if the two sides were to now reach accord, some are wondering how long the harmony will last.

"That's just who Jim is," a source told The Chronicle. "He'd probably like to redo his contract every year, just out of competition. We seem to thrive on chaos and distraction."
