Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman believes the league's proposed ban of the N-word would do almost as much harm as good.
"It's an atrocious idea," the outspoken Seattle Seahawks cornerback told Sports Illustrated. "It's almost racist, to me. It's weird they're targeting one specific word. Why wouldn't all curse words be banned then?"
According to SI, Sherman also emphasized that the word could be used in different ways and that the intent of its use changes from case to case. "It's in the locker room and on the field at all times," he said. "I hear it almost every series out there on the field."
Like Sherman, many feel that by singling out one word, the NFL would be prompting criticism that it is unfairly targeting a small group of people. SI reports there are also reports that homophobic slurs are also under consideration as words to be banned by the Competition Committee.
Sherman was one of the keys in leading the Seahawks' to the franchise's first NFL title in history, but he almost made as much history for his post -game rant following Seattle's NFC Championship Game win over San Francisco when he berated Niners receiver Michael Crabtree.
