Darren Sharper rape case update: NFL vet held in L.A. without bail [VIDEO]

A L.A. County Superior Court judge has ordered former NFL star Darren Sharper to remain in police custody at least until Friday, as she seeks to decide if he will be required to immediately travel to New Orleans to face more allegations of rape.

Sharper, 38, has now been jailed for several days in L.A. on charges he drugged and raped two women at his home there. In all, the former Super Bowl-winning hero has now been charged with raping as many as nine separate women in five different states.

According to TMZ, the judge overseeing Monday's proceedings instantly took the option of bond off the table and mandated Sharper will remain jailed at least until Friday, the day of his next scheduled court appearance.

Throughout the day, Sharper's attorney challenged the concept that the NFL vet can be held without bail, given he hasn't formally been charged with a crime in Louisiana. And since he already posted bail in the L.A. case -- there's no basis to keep him locked up. A judge recently upped Sharper's bail to $1 million in L.A. after initially placing it at $200,000.

Sharper won a super Bowl with the 201 New Orlean Saints. He was later named to the NFL 2000 All Decade Team.
