NBA rumors: Phil Jackson to join New York Knicks front office? [VIDEO]

Will Phil Jackson join the New York Knicks as a front-office executive?

The New York Daily News is reporting that the legendary coach is mulling an offer from the Knicks and is expected to announce his decision next week. The media outlet cites an NBA source as saying that Knicks owner James Dolan has met with Jackson about returning to the franchise where he won two rings as a player.

"Dolan's play to land Jackson makes sense on several levels, especially with the Knicks front office in complete chaos and with the team just 22-40 entering Friday's game against Utah. Jackson provides instant credibility and the allure of leading the franchise back to their first championship since his mentor Red Holzman last did it in 1973 is something that appeals to Jackson," the NY Daily News adds.

According to the newspaper, it is still unclear what Jackson's role would be with the Knicks. However, the NBA source said it will be more than a consulting job.

Earlier, Jackson had been offered the Knicks coaching position by Knicks president Steve Mills but declined saying he no longer intends to coach again.

The Hall of Fame coach has been vocal about his interest in moving to a front office position and running a team. He was most recently a consultant for the Detroit Pistons and was scheduled to join the front office of the Sacramento Kings until the team reached an agreement to defer its transfer to Seattle and remain in Northern California.
