For the first time since his rookie season in 2003, LeBron James has now gone back-to-back games without attempting a free throw.
Coming off his zero free throw performance against the Bulls on Sunday that marked the first such occurrence since 2009, James scored 23 points in leading the two-time defending champion Heat past Washington on Monday night. But again, he didn't go to the free throw line a single time.
"Very surprised," James told CBSSports.com of his free throw shooting drought. Having recently suffered a broken nose in a collision with Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka, some are speculating the four-time league MVP might not be driving the ball to the hoop quite as aggressively as he normally does, and thus not drawing as much contact.
James wore a mask to protect his nose for about two weeks, but recently ditched it mid-game and hasn't worn it again. James averages 7.3 free throw attempts per game, placing him eighth in the league. But since he had his nose busted, he's taken an average of just 5.1.
The Heat face the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, and as usual, all eyes will be on The King as he seeks to prevent a career-first streak of three straight games without a free throw.
