Phil Jackson, New York Knicks rumors: George Karl says Carmelo Anthony 'not Phil type player' [VIDEO]

With rumblings growing that Phil Jackson is on his way to New York to assume control of the New York Knicks, veteran NBA coach George Karl thinks that may spell the end of Carmelo Anthony's run as the face of the franchise.

With Anthony on record in asserting he plans to opt out of his contract at the end of the season, Karl told ProBasketball.com that may be a blessing in disguise for the Knicks because he feels "Melo isn't a Phil Jackson type of player."

Karl coached Anthony in Denver from 2005-11 and has often crossed paths with Jackson over the course of their storied coaching careers. Despite being one of the league's top scorers, many are wondering if Anthony and Jackson make a good fit.

"To me, when you ask me that question, I don't think 'Melo is a Phil Jackson type of player," Karl told the website. "That would be my answer to that."

Whatever comes of his tenure in New York, it's not as if Anthony won't have options. The Bulls and Lakers are on record in expressing interest in him, with both Kobe Bryant and Joakim Noah both once being rumored to be recruiting him.
