Darren Sproles Saints rumors [VIDEO]: Prefers release from New Orleans, 'I don't want to get traded'

Darren Sproles realizes his time with the New Orleans Saints is coming to an end, and while he realizes that it's out of his hands, the running back would rather be released from the team than to be traded elsewhere.

Bucaneers not trading cornerback Darrelle Revis?

Sproles made it very clear that he doesn't want to be dealt and hopes to control his own fate.

"I want to get released. I don't want to be traded," Sproles told ESPN. "I don't know where they would send me because I have no control over it and I want to be able to pick. The good thing is none of the teams I'm told they're talking to are terrible. It's more than two. I feel I should have more of an idea later on today."

The Saints have chosen to shop Sproles, according to ESPN, because they received a lot of interest from other teams. That means New Orleans is likely to try and deal him to get something back rather than release him and get nothing in return.

Sproles is also due $3.5 million in salary bonuses during the final year of his contract which can be saved against the Saints' cap if the team opts to deal him.

The Saints were shopping Sproles along with Pierre Thomas, but after keeping Thomas by re-upping with him on a two-year extension Wednesday and with the emergence of Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson, the Saints feel as though Sproles has become more expendable.

Sproles, 30, has been with the Saints for the past three seasons after coming over from the San Diego Chargers and has mounted 1,067 rushing yards and 1,981 receiving yards while putting up 21 touchdowns over the three-year span.

The Saints didn't use Sproles in 2013 as much as they had the previous two years, as he rushed for 220 yards, had 71 receptions for 601 yards and just four total touchdowns.

Sproles is hoping that the Saints will let him hit the open market so he can choose his destiny.

Unfortunately for the running back, it's not up to him and the Saints are working on a trade.
