Chicago Bears news: Jared Allen signs four year deal; Better contract than Packers' Julius Peppers? [GIFS]

Free agency may be on the back end, but meaningful players are still making noise. The Chicago Bears and Jared Allen have agreed to a four-year deal.

This move comes out of left field as many thought that Allen was deciding between the Seahawks' offer on the table and retirement, but it looks like the Bears swopped in last minute. The money must be what Allen was seeking as he had publicly stated that he would walk away with no regrets if the money wasn't to his liking.

As for the Bears, they have completely revamped their defensive line and for relatively less money than Julius Peppers would have cost. Bringing in Lamarr Houston and Willie Young improved the Bears' pass rush from where it was in 2013 and letting Peppers was the right move.

The Bears now add Allen next to Houston on a team that is historically notorious for their great defensive units and they now have a top five defensive line in football. Letting Peppers go to the rival Packers is well worth the additions they brought in and are miles ahead of the team they were in 2013.

We'll have to wait and see the numbers of Allen’s contract to see how cost efficient it was, but the Bears traded in the older model on the back end in Peppers and brought in younger dominant players. Allen is now the old veteran that will let loose his bag of tricks to the younger players while causing havoc for quarterbacks.

I love this move for both the Bears and Allen, and I look forward to many a Jared Allen sack dance when he lines up opposite Houston. Beware NFC and NFC North quarterbacks, the Bears are absolutely coming for you.
