NBA Rumors: Steve Kerr top candidate for Knicks coaching job? [VIDEO]

As the New York Knicks try to salvage the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, rumors are ripe that new president of basketball operations Phil Jackson could tap former Chicago Bulls player and current TNT analyst Steve Kerr as head coach to replace Mike Woodson.

USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt is reporting that if Kerr intends to coach, he would have Woodson's job. Zillgitt wrote: "If indeed TNT analyst and former NBA guard Steve Kerr, who played for three of Jackson's championship Bulls teams, wants to coach, he is the front-runner, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation."

While Kerr has no previous coaching experience, he did reveal his interest in becoming a head coach. As Bleacher Report reported, Kerr shared in the Dan Patrick Show his interest in coaching. "In general terms, what's intriguing, for me, I've been broadcasting for eight years. I love visiting with the coaches beforehand, hearing what they are trying to do that night, the strategy, how they are trying to attack the other team. It's fascinating to me. That's the intriguing part of it for me. If I ever end up going down that path, it's because of what I've been able to experience as a broadcaster and a player."

Zellgitt added that another name being considered for the head coaching job should Kerr decide not to coach is current Oklahoma City Thunder guard Derek Fisher, who will retire at the end of the season.
