Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love is considered as the top free agent next year, and as early as today teams like the Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up to make a run at the rebounding machine.
After registering a triple-double against the LA Lakers on Friday-22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assist - Love dismissed talks about leaving Minnesota for Los Angeles saying he's only concern right now is to win games for his team.
"You know, my parents live there and they had me there," Love said of L.A. via ESPN.com. "It's not my fault. So, I don't really care about that right now. I just go out there and play and don't think about it."
Love is a native of Los Angeles, having played at UCLA with Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook. He was born in Santa Monica and his father Stan played for the Lakers in the '70s.
On Friday, Marc Stein of ESPN reported that the Lakers are ready to trade their first round pick this year for Love. "The suggestion is already in circulation that the Lakers will attempt to use their forthcoming high lottery pick in June to assemble the sort of trade package that finally convinces the Wolves to part with Love and end the uncertainty that hangs over this franchise even before the 25-year-old enters the final year of his contract," he wrote.
However, the Lakers can expect some opposition from other big-city teams like the Bulls and Knicks. Dave McMenamin of ESPN wrote: "A source familiar with Love's thinking told ESPNLosAngeles.com that it's not just L.A. that is appealing to Love; he's enamored with the idea of being "big time in a big city," and that list of potential places he'd seek includes New York and Chicago, as well."
Love is the type of franchise player a team can build around, as proven by his averages of 26.3 points a game and 12.6 rebounds per outing.
