NBA news: Rockets' Patrick Beverley doesn't need surgery; Point guard will be back 'for playoffs' [GIF]

The NBA playoffs are right around the corner and the injury bug is crushing the Houston Rockets. They might have caught a break with Patrick Beverley, who doesn't need knee surgery.

Beverley was feared to be lost for the season and playoffs with a torn meniscus in his right knee. It is now believed that he will be available for the playoffs, according to Yahoo.com.

In his 52 starts this season Beverely has averaged 9.9 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals and has added a much needed defensive boost to a Rockets team that is allowing over 100 points and game and recently learned they would be without Dwight Howard for the next week and a half with an ankle injury.

At 49-23, Houston sits in fourth place in the west and has a matchup with the Blazers in the first round if the season ended today. The Rockets have won five of their last six games and travel to Brooklyn to play the Nets Tuesday night.
