NFL news: DeSean Jackson release investigated by Players Association? Eagles smear campaign created 'gang ties' rumors? [VIDEO]

The NFL Players Association will officially look into the possibility of a smear campaign by the Philadelphia Eagles before their release of DeSean Jackson.

Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith spoke on ESPN’s Mike & Mike about the Jackson situation and what they plan to look into.

“We’ve been in touch with DeSean, and first and foremost he is a tremendous football player and great young man,” Smith said on Mike & Mike. “On the issue of how he was released, whether or not there were comments or leaks from the team, misinformation to the media coming from the team, that’s something that we’re going to look at. We’ve always been aggressive about protecting the integrity of our players.”

Reports are emerging that Jackson was “blatantly insubordinate” and tested boundaries with both Chip Kelly and former head coach Andy Reid. An unnamed source spoke with CBS Philadelphia about Jackson’s misconduct.

You see little kids and how they cry and whine when they don’t get their way, that was D-Jax,” another source said. “I don’t think [Jackson] gave [Kelly] the respect he deserved. Kelly tried to reach [Jackson] plenty of times and [Jackson] tuned him out. Then you look at team functions, when everyone is out together at charity things or social stuff. He was the one missing. It was like he was in ‘D-Jax world’ and we just happened to be there.

The NFL always finds a way to get to the bottom of these kind of cases and got involved in the Tampa Bay situation with Josh Freeman in 2013. That case ended up being both sides were in the wrong and split was the only way to end it. If anything big is going to come out about Jackson, it will be at a snails pace with the NFL leading the charge.
