New York Yankees rumors [VIDEO]: Stephen Drew, Kendrys Morales not in Bronx Bombers plans despite injuries

The New York Yankees spent $438 million this offseason, but the injury bug has nipped the Bronx Bombers hard throughout the first few weeks of the season. Despite all the injuries, the team does not intend to go after shortstop Stephen Drew or first baseman Kendrys Morales, who remain unsigned free agents.

A team source revealed to ESPN that despite the team's infield being banged up, it has no intentions of going out and signing Drew or Morales.

"Nobody's signing Drew or Morales, not at the money they're asking,'' the source, who requested anonymity, said according to ESPN.

Drew played for the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox in 2013 and made $9.5 million as the everyday shortstop. Morales made $5.25 million and played 30 games at first base for the Seattle Mariners last season and turned down multiple contract offers to return their this offseason. Drew is reportedly looking for a $14 million per year multi-year deal.

Drew and Morales each turned down $14.1 million qualifying offers to stay with their previous teams, meaning that draft pick compensation is tied to them signing elsewhere. Aside from the draft pick compensation, the fact that both are represented by demanding agent Scott Boras has led to many teams taking a pass on them with the possibility of signing one of them in June after the draft should the need arise.

The Yankees expect injury-prone first baseman Mark Teixeira (calf) back on Sunday while Francisco Cervelli (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list and will possibly miss 4-to-6 weeks, Brian McCann (hand) was dinged up on a foul ball but should be fine and Brendan Ryan (spine) is on the disabled list.

Despite a plethora of injuries and an aging roster, the Yankees reportedly are not interested in Drew or Morales.

Drew hit .253 for the Red Sox in 124 games with 13 homers and 67 RBIs in 2013 while Morales hit .277 with 23 homers and 80 RBIs for the Mariners in 156 games.
