George Brett meets Lorde; 'Royals' singer meets inspiration for smash hit single [VIDEO]

Sometimes a story just comes out of left field and puts two people together that you would have never thought had any connection. This is one of those stories. Singer Lorde met the one person that inspired her to write her smash hit “Royals” and that man was Hall of Fame third baseman and Kansas City Royal George Brett.

Lorde told VH1 last year that she once saw a National Geographic magazine when she was younger “of this dude just signing baseballs. He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’ It was just that word. It’s really cool.”

The photo in question was, of course, was of Brett in the July 1976 issue of Nat Geo and Lorde has since invited Brett to hang out on multiple occasions since the song had become a hit. TMZ was first to report the story and Brett told them that he had planned to meet Lorde on several occasions, but they had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts.

The two finally met before Lorde’s concert in Las Vegas and when Brett couldn't attend a concert in Kansas City he sent Lorde a present. He sent her a signed George Brett No. 5 jersey with the added message “Lorde, you are Royal to me”. It’s a small world out there.
