WWE rumors [VIDEO]: Batista taking time off after Extreme Rules, 'The Animal' to miss most of May

Batista is reportedly taking some time off from the WWE after the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on May 4 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. and will miss most of the month of May.

"The Animal" is slated to reprise Evolution at Extreme Rules, teaming up with Triple H and Randy Orton to battle The Shield in a six-man tag team match as part of the card.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Batista is not currently advertised any WWE events following the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, and isn't scheduled to appear on the following night's May 5 edition of Monday Night RAW in Albany, N.Y.

CM Punk blurred out during The Ultimate Warrior's WWE Network special

The WWE has a big European tour kicking off in May, and Batista isn't booked to make any appearances during that trip and will still be off. The reasoning for his temporary departure is unknown, but when the WWE re-signed him over the winter, he was slated to miss time to do promotional work for his movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy comes out on Aug. 1, and Batista was slated to miss time in order to do some promotional work for the movie, but it's uncertain whether that is tied to his temporary leave since the movie won't be coming out for another three months.

The WWE signed Batista to a mega deal and he returned to the company for the first time since 2010 earlier this year. The original plans called for Batista to be a mega face and challenge Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX where he was expected to win.

Batista won the Royal Rumble match in a WWE decision that is believed to be partially responsible for CM Punk's departure from the company, but things weren't going as planned as Batista wasn't warmly received by the crowd.

The WWE flipped the script, throwing Daniel Bryan into the main event match to make it a triple threat between Bryan, Batista and Orton, and Bryan ended up walking away with the gold.

Now, Batista continues to be pushed as a top heel along with Triple H, Orton and Kane, but it appears as though he will be missing time for at least a month.
