Michael Sam already is used to being under the microscope; now he may be putting the St. Louis Rams alongside him.
Dallas broadcaster upset Michael Sam not drafted higher than 249th
CBSSports.com reported that the Oprah Winfrey Network announced that it will produce a multi-part documentary on Sam's efforts to make the Rams team in 2014. Sam is the first openly gay player to enter the NFL Draft.
According to CBSSports.com, OWN said in a news release that it will have cameras following Sam, but OWN, the NFL, and the Rams have not indicated how much access the network will receive into the Rams' offseason.
"We are honored that Michael is trusting us with his private journey in this moment that has not only made history but will shape it forever," Winfrey said in a statement. "I am proud of the focus on authentic storytelling in our new documentary series format. The next real-life story we follow in 'The Untitled Michael Sam Project' promises to spark valuable, important discussion on life in America today. Acceptance and illumination start here."

After witnessing the furor over Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend on ESPN when he got the draft-day call, the Rams could be forgiven for wondering what they have gotten themselves into.
If they allow access, every member of the Rams also will be scrutinized. If they don't, they could be accused of trying to hide something.
It's a situation that right now looks to be a no-win scenario for the St. Louis franchise, based on the reaction and counter-reaction of Sam's ESPN kiss.
Said Sam in that same statement: "Like every player out there working to make a team right now, my focus is on playing football to the very best of my ability. I am determined. And if seeing my story helps somebody else accept who they are and to go for their dreams too, that's great. I am thankful to Oprah for her support and excited to work together."
Whether the Rams share that excitement remains to be seen.
