CM Punk Quits WWE [VIDEO]: Backstage Update On 'Best in the World,' Frustration Over Pay And Booking Led To Departure

Tags: CM Punk

CM Punk left the WWE four months ago, but he is still being talked about and it appears as though the speculated reasons for why the "Best in the World" left the company are actually the real reason why he did as Punk left due to frustration with pay, booking and travel.

Rumored Title Match For Payback

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, a backstage source close to the Punk situation said that Punk has had no contact with the WWE in a long time and that he left due to frustration over how he was booked, how much he was getting paid for appearances and that he's much happier being home and wasn't happy on the road.

It had been speculated that Punk left due to frustration over his booking, especially since he was expected to face Triple H at WrestleMania XXX when he wanted to main event. Daniel Bryan ended up defeating Triple H at the show and going on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in what was seen as a "middle finger" to Punk since he turned down the match with Triple H.

Punk had been burned out and Mick Foley recalled that it appeared as though Punk was in constant pain and was uncomfortable, while the constant traveling was getting to him. Punk's frustration reached its boiling point after the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in January and he stormed out before a live Monday Night RAW telecast the following night.

Vince McMahon and the WWE were determined to get Punk back at the time of his departure, and they were hoping that he would talk to management when the WWE was in his home city of Chicago on March 3 for RAW, but Punk once again no-showed RAW despite being under contract until this coming July.

After the Chicago RAW and WrestleMania XXX passed on April 6, the sentiment began to change and the WWE reportedly gave up on a Punk return. Punk has been silent about his departure and hasn't talked about the WWE since he left the company, likely because he is still technically under contract.

Punk has made appearances outside the wrestling realm, including on the AMC show Talking Dead, Chicago Cubs games, Chicago Blackhawks games where he even participated in the Shoot the Puck challenge and a Tough Mudder event in Chicago.

Punk got engaged to WWE Diva A.J. Lee, who took time off from the company to move in with him.

The speculated reasons for Punk's departure are apparently exactly the reasons why he left, and it is highly unlikely Punk will return to the company, despite the fact that the Payback event on June 1 is in Chicago.
