Derek Fisher Knicks Rumors [VIDEO]: Phil Jackson Hoping Thunder Point Guard Will Become Next Coach?

Having watched their No. 1 choice, Steve Kerr, spurn them to take the coaching job with the Golden State Warriors, the New York Knicks have moved on in the search for their new coach, and Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Derek Fisher is on the list of names the team is interested in.

Kobe Bryant Won't Weigh In On Lakers New Coach

According to ESPN, Phil Jackson is in no rush to sign a new coach but New York at least wants to talk to the Thunder point guard to see if he'd be a good fit to take over the reins after Mike Woodson was dismissed at the end of a mediocre 2013-14 season where the Knicks finished 37-45.

Fisher may opt to return to the court but has been mum on the speculation that he could take a head coaching or front office job, while Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said he wouldn't be surprised if the 18-year veteran opted to return to the court for another season as a player.

Lakers Interested In Greg Monroe

Fisher has declined to comment on his future in hopes to not be a distraction for his team as the Thunder preps to open up its Western Conference Finals series with the San Antonio Spurs.

"I would tell people to allow me to finish my career as a player before they give me another job after that," Fisher told ESPN last round. "It's humbling, just to think about people thinking of me in that manner, especially while I'm still playing. [But] I promise you this is the last thing on my mind at this point. I really haven't thought about it that much. Hopefully there's a lot of basketball left to be played this season for sure. Once that's done we'll go from there."

Fisher remains a point of interest for the Knicks along with Denver Nuggets coach Brian Shaw, but the team currently doesn't plan to ask the Nuggets' permission to speak with him, and Shaw is a longshot.

It remains to be seen who the Knicks will hire to replace Woodson, and while they have a list of names that they'd like to bring on board, the process is a slow moving one for New York.
