Prince Fielder 'Seriously Considering' Season-Ending Neck Surgery For Herniated Disk [VIDEO]

Texas Rangers All-Star first baseman Prince Fielder is rumored to be "seriously considering" season-ending neck surgery to repair a herniated disk.

According to CBSSports.com, the 30-year-old Fielder underwent a "nerve-root injection" as recently as last week in an attempt to stem the pain, but the procedure did not remove the disk now pressing against a nerve in the area and causing weakness around the joint and in his left arm.

Prince Fielder's divorce hurting performance?

CBS Sports adds only surgery can accomplish those ailemnts and Fielder has yet to make a bottom line decision, with his only other option being continuing to play through the pain.

"I think he's disappointed that he can't be here not only for this series but for his team," manager Ron Washington told the website on Thursday before the Rangers took the field against Fielder's old Detroit Tigers team. "It's a situation where there wasn't anything he could do about it. If he could, he would be here."

Prince Fielder dealt to Rangers

Hampered by the injury most of the season after being acquired from the Tigers over the winter, Fielder has struggled to just three homers and 16 RBIs in 42 games. Over the last eight seasons, he has averaged 31 homers and 111 RBIs. Fielder's best season came with the Brewers in 2007 when he hit 50 homers and drove in 119 runs.

The Rangers still owe Fielder approximately $130 million through 2020, an average of nearly $22 million per season.
