Minnesota Timberwolves Rumors: Dave Joerger Nears Deal to Coach Timberwolves [VIDEO]

The Minnesota Timberwolves want Memphis Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger as their new bench tactician, sources told The Associated Press.

Joerger has two years remaining on his contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, but the team is reportedly looking to replace him as part of an ongoing front-office shake-up. Memphis recently fired Jason Levien as CEO and Stu Lash as director of player personnel.

The Timberwolves are looking to replace recently retired coach Rick Adelman. Joerger, 40, is a Minnesota native.

The AP reports that Joerger impressed Wolves owner Glen Taylor during a meeting between the two on Saturday. He met with Timberwolves president Flip Saunders on Thursday. Joerger moves ahead of former Raptors coach Sam Mitchell and Lionel Hollins for the vacant Timberwolves head coaching job.

IJoerger replaced Hollins after the latter led the Grizzlies to a Western Conference finals appearance against the San Antonio Spurs in 2013. While the Grizzlies started poorly in the 2013-14 season, Joerger was able to guide them to a postseason berth. The Grizzlies finihed the regular-season with a 50-32 record.

It remains to be seen though if Joerger's hiring can convince star player Kevin Love to stay in Minnesota. Multiple reports have it that Love has demanded a trade this offseason, or else the Wolves will have nothing in return when he leaves the team as a free agent next summer.

How will the potential hiring of Dave Joerger affect Kevin Love's future in Minny? Tell us @SportsWN.
