The Memphis Grizzlies have targeted veteran coach Jeff Van Gundy for a coach/team president role similar to that recently inked by older brother Stan Van Gundy with the Detroit Pistons.
According to ESPN, the former Knicks and Rockets coach now sits at the top of the Grizzlies wish list, as the team awaits what management is certain will be the inevitable resignation of current coach Dave Joerger so he can take over that same role in Minnesota.

Currently an ESPN analyst, Van Gundy's interest is such an arrangement remains largely unknown, as he has declined to talk about any specific coaching openings and if he holds any interest in any of them.
The 52-year-old Van Gundy has coached 11 NBA seasons, including seven with the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, where he composed his best record in 1996-97 at 57-25. Overall, Van Gundy led teams have won at least 50 games in four different seasons, including two of the last three seasons he spent with the Houston Rockets.

Other rumored possibilities for the Griz include Clippers assistant coach Alvin Gentry and ESPN analyst George Karl. Meanwhile, the Wolves are also rumored to have made "significant progress" in their talks with Joerger, on the outs with Memphis owner Robert Pera despite leading the team to 50 wins this season in the ultra-tough Western Conference.
