NFL Roster Changes: Justin Blackmon, Trent Cole Could Be Cut During Training Camp? [VIDEO]

The NFL is a dog eat dog business and sometimes there are cuts and additions that some would question. Every year there are surprising cuts of veteran players that were once thought to be a big part of the puzzle in 2014. Lets look at some potential candidates who could be looking for work over the summer.

Peyton Hillis, RB, New York Giants:
Once the future of the Browns' running attack and a Madden cover athlete, Hillis has fallen from grace the past few seasons. The Giants have reloaded their running attack with the likes of Rashad Jennings and even drafted Boston College’s Andre Williams. Hillis wouldn't be a shocking name on the cutting block, but his name carried some weight for a short period of time.

Terence Newman, CB, Cincinnati Bengals:
Another team that could cut a once valued resource and replace them with a player the team drafted is the Bengals. Newman is nearing the end of his NFL career and will only make $1.9 million in 2014. The Bengals drafted Darqueze Dennard to come in a be a starter and Cincinnati already has Leon Hall, Adam Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick on the roster. Newman needs to have a solid camp and preseason to stay on this team.

Trent Cole, LB, Philadelphia Eagles:
The Eagles drafted Marcus Smith out of Louisville in the first round this past season so you have to ask if Cole is on the cutting block. Cole hasn't been his normal self these past few seasons and is turning 32 this coming season. Cole is due $10 million in 2015, but his role as a mentor and his presence on the defense could call for a restructuring of his contract. Cutting Cole has to be considered if the Eagles are looking to save a quick buck.

Justin Blackmon, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars:
Blackmon’s history with the law and his indefinite suspension are the perfect combination for him to be unemployed this summer. The Jaguars also took a pair of wide receivers in the draft in the form of Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson. The Jaguars have given no indication they intend to keep Blackmon around and it looks like the only question is who will take a chance on him next.
