Tampa Bay Rays Trade Rumors: Matt Moore Injury, Bad Start Speeding Up David Price Deal? [VIDEO]

The trade rumors of Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price that circulated since the winter are picking back up as the Rays drop from contention. Standing eight games out of first place and seven games under .500, is it time for them to deal Price for all he’s worth?

The Rays are no strangers to the idea of trading Price as he was the talk of the winter considering the Rays did not want to extend him for the money he was worth. Scott Miller of Bleacher Report reports that scouts believe the Rays way of doing things could hinder their trade options.

“I would think the chances of David Price getting moved are good,” says one longtime American League scout. “Really good, actually.”

“Tampa still thinks they’re in this,” says one veteran National League scout. “I think they’re going to run it right up to when they have to make a decision. With their history, they’re not going to quit.”

The Rays, according to multiple sources, were prepared to deal Price last winter. That’s when, internally, they determined his value would be at its highest. But no front office is sharper than that of the Rays, and they were not going to settle, and when nobody offered the right package for Price, Tampa Bay determined to take him into the season.

If the Rays do decide to move forward without Price it could come sooner rather than later. The Rays are without pitcher Matt Moore and are no where near the team they thought they would be through a quarter of the season. The Rays aren’t a franchise that packs up and goes home in the month of May, but the way things are going, it could be time for Tampa Bay to get a trade package for Price.
