New York Yankees Trade Rumors: Kendrys Morales On Radar With Mark Teixeira, Carlos Beltran Injured [VIDEO]

The New Yankees have set the bar so high for themselves due to the fact that they are usually championship or bust every season. With ailing players left and right, could it be time for the Yankees to make a splash in the free agent market once again?

After Mark Teixeira the Yankees find themselves barren at first base. The situation is so bad that catcher Brian McCann had to play his first game at first base Wednesday. With recent swelling in Teixeira’s surgically repaired wrist and backup catcher Francisco Cervelli not scheduled to make a return anytime soon, the Yankees should take a long look at Kendrys Morales.

According to Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal, the Mariners are making it known throughout the MLB that Morales is available.

The Mariners, who reportedly offered Morales a three-year, $30 million contract before he hit the open market, then made him a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer in free agency, are signaling to clubs that they lack the payroll flexibility to add him now, sources say.

Like Teixeira, Morales is a switch-hitter that would contribute immediately and could add a layer of depth when Teixeira returns. The Yankees have also lost switch-hitting Carlos Beltran to bone spurs in his elbow, but he is looking to avoid surgery. The Yankees could use the switch-hitting power that Morales would provide and the depth he would if Ichiro and Alfonso Soriano have to man the outfield in Beltran’s absence.

Despite the injuries, the Yankees find themsleves at 28-24 and stand three games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the AL East.
