Donald Sterling Diagnosed With Alzheimer's, Clippers Sale To Steve Ballmer Going Forward [VIDEO]

Disgraced L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which TMZ.com reports led to him being declared mentally incompetent before the team was tenatively sold to Microsoft billionaire Steve Ballmer earlier this week.

The 81-year-old Sterling was recently examined by two noted neurologists, which included him undergoing both a CT and PET scan. Doctors now state they believe the NBA's longest tenured owner may have had the disease for as long as five years.

Donald Sterling banned from NBA

NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently imposed a lifetime ban on Sterling after a video of him admonishing a girlfriend not to bring "black people to my games" was made public. During the rant, Sterling also directly attacked longtime Laker and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. Silver also fined Sterling a league maximum $2.5 million.

The deal with Ballmer is reported to be for $2 billion and he and Shelly Sterling are rumored to have already signed the final papers of the sale with Ballmer stipulating he has no plans to sell the team.

LeBron James avoided Clippers because of Donald Sterling

Sterling purchased the Clippers in 1981 for $12.5 million and Ballmer has previously been part of a failed effort to purchase the Sacramento Kings.

"Steve Ballmer owning the Clippers is a big win for the City of LA and all the people who live in the City of Angels," Johnson told ESPN.
