Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer have split up, as the latter's vacated his position as Golden Boy CEO. With Schaefer, a known adversary of Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, out of the picture De La Hoya has designs on ending boxing's "Cold War."

"I don't care what it takes," De La Hoya told RingTV.com. "I will end the Cold War for the fans. "I have a mission and that mission is to make the best fights happen, to bring everybody together for the fans. That's all it is. It's for the fans."
For years the rivalry between Golden Boy and Top Rank has robbed fans of potentially major matchups, chief among them Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, who will both go down as all-time greats when they hang up the gloves. While there are few matchups of that magnitude to make these days, De La Hoya rattled off several intriguing pairings.
"There are a lot of possibilities," De La Hoya said. "You can do (Marcos) Maidana versus Pacquiao. You can do (Lucas) Matthysse and Brandon Rios. There's a lot of possibilities.

"First things first, I had a meeting with Bob Arum. I'm going to have another meeting with him. And we'll talk. We'll sit down and then see what we can work out. This is for the sake of boxing and for the benefit of the sport. (It is) for the fans. They want to see the big fights happen. Well, I'm going to do it for the fans."
The first fight they may get cracking on is Manny Pacquiao vs. Canelo Alvarez. While Arum said that fight isn't really feasible until 2015, Pacquiao's next opponent is up in the air. Juan Manuel Marquez is Arum's target for a November fight, but his camp seems reluctant and the candidates after him are underwhelming.
Another option could be Amir Khan, a Showtime fighter who would greatly benefit by the improved relations between promoters.
