The San Francisco 49ers locked up part of their future when they inked quarterback Colin Kaepernick to a six-year, $126 million extension this week, but now the question remains over whether or not coach Jim Harbaugh will be there to see the contract through.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the 49ers have made an offer to Harbaugh on a contract extension, but the coach has yet to respond to the offer.
Harbaugh wants to get paid a lot of money despite the fact that he's only led the 49ers to the Super Bowl and has never won it, leading to a bit of a disconnect between both sides.

Harbaugh, whose deal doesn't run out until 2016, said in March that there is "zero opportunity" he would leave San Francisco before the deal runs out. There were rumors over the winter that Harbaugh was in play to join the Cleveland Browns and that he wanted to be the highest paid coach in football, but the coach denied both claims.
"[I] never said to anybody that I want to be the highest-paid coach in football," Harbaugh told reporters in March.
The Browns moved on to Mike Pettine as coach, and Harbaugh remains in San Francisco locked up through 2016, with an offer for more years still on the table.
Kaepernick is coming off of a season where he went 243-for-416 (58.4%) for 3,197 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions, leading to the team inking him to the six-year extension.
Under Harbaugh, the 49ers have become a consistent threat in the NFL, notching three straight trips to the NFC Championship Game, but the team has yet to win it all under Harbaugh.
San Francisco finished 12-4 last season in its third season under Harbaugh, falling to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks in the NFC title game, but a divorce between the team and the coach could happen in the next few years if a long-term contract isn't signed soon.
