New York Knicks Rumors: Derek Fisher, Phil Jackson to Meet with Carmelo Anthony; Fisher to Wear Rings to Meeting [VIDEO]

Derek Fisher is the new head coach with the New York Knicks and he already has high hopes for the team. The first order of business for Fisher and Phil Jackson is to convince Carmelo Anthony to stay in New York and Jackson has a plan to make that happen.

Fisher had his introductory press conference in New York Tuesday and spoke about keeping Carmelo in New York as well as the trials of free agency.

“We want Carmelo to be here,” Fisher said at the Knicks’ practice facility in New York. “Obviously, he has a choice. We’ll do everything we can to keep him.”

“I can speak from experience that as a player, free agency is something that you want to experience,” Fisher said. “You enjoy the process. But ultimately, you make a choice that you think is best for you and your family. We obviously firmly believe that here is that place for Carmelo."

Phil Jackson spoke at the conference as well and said he thinks Fisher should wear his five championship rings when the two meet with Anthony.

Fisher and Jackson have the difficult task of trying to convince Anthony to stay with the Knicks while they start a rebuild process. The Knicks cannot make many moves this offseason, but come 2015 they will be free to move freely with an incredible amount of salary cap space. The Knicks will not be a contender in 2014, but if Carmelo stick around they could improve greatly in 2015.
