Miami Heat Rumors: Heat Planning to Pursue Carmelo Anthony, Big Three to Take Pay Cut? [VIDEO]

The big three in Miami could quickly become the big four as the Miami Heat are exploring options to sway Carmelo Anthony to South Beach this offseason.

According to ESPN, Heat executives want Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James to opt out of their respective contracts to make salary room for Anthony. This would require the big three to take a pay cut, something that Bosh said he would already do.

“Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team's leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.

The mere concept would require the star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to all opt out of their current contracts by the end of the month and likely take further salary reductions in new deals that start next season to give Miami the ability to offer Anthony a representative first-year salary. The Heat also are prevented from making any formal contact with Anthony until July 1 and can do so then only if he opts out of the final year of his current contract. Anthony has until June 23 to notify the Knicks of his intentions, according to sources.”

This is all hearsay at this point as the Heat cannot formally pursue Anthony until after June 23. The Heat are looking to reload regardless of what happens in these NBA Finals as they could have many players retire or leave the team. The Heat will enter a mini rebuild mode of sorts as they could be without half of their current roster come free agency.

Anthony would be a great addition to a Heat team that is having struggles scoring the basketball as of late. If there is one thing Anthony can do it is score the ball from everywhere and anywhere. This story is in it's early goings, but if it holds any merit this will be the story to watch over the summer.
