It took more than 720 minutes, but the 2014 World Cup finally saw its first bit of drama. After Enner Valencia was able to open the affair for Ecuador (22nd minute), Switzerland’s Admir Mehmedi equalized in the second half. Haris Seferovic found the match-winner in stoppage time, giving Switzerland a 2-1 victory.
Goals: France—Benzema 45' (penalty), 72' Valladares 48' (own goal)
Recap: For some—and by some we mean irrational conspiracists—France's comprehensive 3-0 victory was riddled with controversy. It wasn’t. A clear penalty allowed the Blues to capture a 1-0 lead. A clear own-goal doubled the advantage. Karim Benzema left little doubts in the second half, giving France the lead in Group E.
Goals: Argentina—Kolasinac 3' (own-goal) Messi 65'; Bosnia-Herzegovina—Ibisevic 84'
Recap: A mildly entertaining affair saw Bosnia-Herzegovina blink first en route to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Argentina. An own-goal from Sead Kolasinac gifted the Argentines the early lead. Lionel Messi would land the final blow in the 65th minute. Vedad Ibisevic would pull one back for the Dragons in the 84th minute, but his efforts would be futile. Argentina currently sit atop Group E with three points.
