NBA Free Agent Rumors: Kyle Lowry, Miami Heat Have 'Mutual Interest?' [VIDEO]

The Miami Heat and guard Kyle Lowry have "mutual interest" in one another that could land the 28-year-old veteran in the Heat's backcourt next season.

According to ProBasketballTalk.com, the Heat view the eight-year veteran as someone who "plays a position of need" for the team. Veteran guards Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole both struggled during the Heat's 4-1 loss to the the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Kyle Lowry on Knicks radar?

Lowry, meanwhile, had his best NBA season this year, averaging 18 points, eight assists and four rebounds for the surprising Raptors. The Heat are expected to first focus on retaining their Big 3 core of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, all of whom like Lowry can become free agents this summer.

Consistently performing at an All-Star level for much of the season and into the playoffs, Lowry led the Raptors to 48 wins this season and the No. 3 overall seed in the watered-down Eastern Conference. In his two seasons in Toronto, Lowry, who previously played in Memphis and Houston, has averaged 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

Kyle Lowry on trading block?

The Raptors would like to keep Lowry in the fold, but if the Heat are able to create enough salary-cap flexibility, the lure of having the chance to play with four-time league MVP James and the veteran Wade in South Beach may be too much for Lowry to pass up.

After losing to San Antonio 4-1 in the NBA Finals, the Heat appear anxious to retool their roster and are also rumored to be trying to recruit Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony to South Beach.
