Clayton Kershaw Throws No-Hitter Vs. Colorado Rockies: Second Dodgers No-Hitter Provide Spark?

Clayton Kershaw became the second Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher to throw a no-hitter this season.

Kershaw threw his first career no-hitter came Wednesday night in the Dodgers 8-0 win over the Colorado Rockies. He struck out 15 Rockies batters on 107 pitches, 79 for strikes.

The 15 strikeouts also were a career-best. He struck out every Rockies batter except Troy Tulowitzki

Kershaw, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, also did not walk a batter as the Rockies' only base runner came on a fielding error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez to start the seventh inning that prevented a perfect game.

His no-hitter comes less than a month after Josh Beckett threw a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 25.

"How about that? Special night," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Know what's cool? All those guys stood out there and watched him. No one deserves it more than him. He's won two Cy Young Awards; he doesn't let it get in the way. He just moves forward.  ... It's nice to see someone like that get it. He's just special.

Kershaw's no-hitter was the 22nd in Dodgers history; 12 have come in Los Angeles.

"I'm so amazed. Becky (Beckett) told me he was going to teach me how to do that. We just started scoring so many runs I didn't want to screw that up.

The Dodgers blew bubbles around Kershaw as he conducted a postgame interview. He was asked how the no-hitter compared to the Cy Young Awards

"As far as individual games go, this is pretty special," Kershaw said. "This is something I'm going to remember for the rest of my life."

The last time two Dodgers threw no-hitters in the same season was 1956.
