Aaron Hernandez is worried he's not safe at the Bristol County Jail where he has been held without bail over the last year on first-degree murder charges and is requesting that a judge move him to another facility.
According to TMZSports.com, Hernandez, who since being incarcerated has been charged with threatening to kill a prison guard and his family, also argued in recently filed legal documents that he now fears retribution from other guards. The 24-year-old former NFL star has also denied making the threats.
"Surely, there is now reason to be seriously concerned about Hernandez's personal safety while housed at the Bristol County HOC and to question the ability of that facility's staff to treat Hernandez fairly and professionally while he is subject to their total control," TMZ reported lawyers for Hernandez noted in their filing. "This dynamic is simply untenable."
In addition, Hernandez characterized Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson as "a media whore," who has exploited the former New England Patriots tight end for "self-promotion and virtually non-stop publicity of every imaginable kind."

Hernandez added such actions have "poisoned the jury pool" and the only way to prevent it from continuing is by moving him to a facility where "professional correctional standards are adhered to."
Hernandez is being held without bond and confined to solitary confinement at the facility in the execution style slaying of one-time associate Odin Lloyd. He was also recently charged in the 2012, drive-by shooting deaths of two men outside a downtown Boston nightclub.
Investigators have speculated Hernandez may have killed Lloyd because of his knowledge of other crimes he is suspected of having been involved in.
"I'm very comfortable with how we've conducted ourselves," Hodgson told TMZ of his staff. "I have a staff that is very professional. They understand they're dealing with a high-profile person and go the extra mile to ensure his safety, and other inmates' safety."
