Lakers News: Los Angeles To Trade First-Round Pick For Klay Thompson? [VIDEO]

The Los Angeles Lakers are in the mix to get the services of shooting guard Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors in a trade that would become part of a bigger three-team deal that will send Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love to the Warriors.

The LA Times is reporting that the Lakers are interested in joining the Wolves and Warriors in a deal that would have them send the seventh overall pick in exchange for Thompson. However, that deal is still on hold because some officials within the Warriors franchise are not sold on the idea of trading away Thompson for Love.

Thompson is one of the league's most promising talents, averaging 18.4 points a game last season. He is one-half of the so-called Splash Brothers with Stephen Curry and still is under contract for $4.5 million next year before he becomes a restricted free agent.

Last season was a breakout for Thompson as he improved his scoring average by two points and improved his field goal accuracy to 44 per cent. He also shot an impressive 41.7 per cent from the three point line.

The Lakers are not sure of what to do with the seventh overall pick. The team is deciding on whether to pick a big man like Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh, and Julius Randle or select guards like Dante Exum and Marcus Smart.

It has also been reported that the Lakers are open to selecting Joel Embiid if he is still available by the time they pick.
