Luis Suarez Bite Apology: Uruguay Star Admits Biting Giorgio Chiellini On Purpose, Italy Player Responds Via Twitter [VIDEO]

Luis Suarez of Uruguay bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the two teams’ final Group Stage match of the World Cup. The word allegedly can now be removed from that sentence after Suarez, who has been banned for nine international matches by FIFA, finally admitted his intent.

In a statement released on Twitter, Suarez said that after time off and reflection it was time to set the record straight and apologize. “The truth is my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me,” Suarez wrote. “For this I deeply regret what occurred, I apologize to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family. I also vow to the public that there will never be another incident like Monteviedo, 30th of June 2014.” Chiellini had surprisingly supported Suarez in the aftermath of the bite, chiding FIFA for punishing him too harshly despite previous incidents of Suarez biting opponents as well as other misconduct on the pitch. On Twitter, Chiellini addressed the matter again tweeting at Suarez “@luis16suarez It's all forgotten. I hope FIFA will reduce your suspension.”

Suarez to Barca rumors

When Suarez’s ban was first announced, Chiellini posted a response on his personal website. "I don't have any feelings of joy, revenge or anger towards Suarez for an incident which happened on the field and finished there," Chiellini said. "I'm just angry and disappointed about losing the game. At the moment, my only thoughts are with Luis and his family, because they're faced with a very difficult period."

Chiellini's surprising reaction to Suarez bite ban

Suarez’s absence was felt in the Round of 16, as Colombia throttled Uruguay 2-0. In the two matches Suarez missed, one because of a knee injury, Uruguay lost and failed to score a goal in both matches. When Suarez played, he scored Uruguay’s two goals vs. England in a 2-0 win. He didn’t score against Italy, but one minute after his infamous chomp Uruguay scored the only goal of the match.
