PGA Tour Rumors: Tiger Woods Endorses MusclePharm, Supplement Company Creating Bad Stigma For Woods? [VIDEO]

Tiger Woods has had his ups and downs when it comes to his endorsements, but his most recent one has raised some eyebrows. Woods and MusclePharm have joined forces, but the stigma surrounding supplementation could cause some criticism to come Tiger’s way.

MusclePharm is the official sponsor on Tiger’s new golf bag, but controversy surrounding supplementation and past incidents with misbranding and alleged anabolic steroid use has turned some heads. The incident in question was from an incident in 2012 involving the supplement companies director of marketing when he was involved at another company.

"MusclePharm's ascent has not been without turbulence. The director of marketing, Jeremy DeLuca, pleaded guilty in 2012 to selling misbranded dietary supplements containing synthetic anabolic steroids when he was the president of Bodybuilding.com, an online sports nutrition company.”

Woods has always done his research when it comes to his endorsements so there should be no problems here, but it’s an interesting relationship nonetheless. Woods' agent Mark Steinberg spoke about the misinterpretation in supplementation and how Tiger can be the face to clear up the stigma.

"Our goal is to take the stigma out of supplements," said Steinberg. "Tiger Woods, maybe the most fit golfer that we've had, let's show that it's O.K. to align yourself with supplements. Just be safe when you do it. That's the message we collectively want to spread.”

The CEO of MusclePharm, Brad Pyatt agrees that Tiger can be the face of legal supplementation and his star power will speak volumes.

"My long-term goal is to become the first mainstream supplement company to take the scariness out of supplements.”

"He's the biggest figure in athletics we can get other than LeBron James.”

Woods was subject to his share of steroid rumors over his career in a time where anyone and everyone could have been using PED’s. Woods has never tested positive for any performance enhancing drugs in his 18-year career.

The terms of Woods deal with MusclePharm are undisclosed, but it is expected to be a hefty sum.
