Tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET, the New York Yankees (44-43) and Cleveland Indians (43-44) kick off their four-game series live from Progressive Field in Cleveland. New York continues an 11-game road trip after taking three of four from the Minnesota Twins to start it out while Cleveland continues a 10-game homestand after taking two of three from the Kansas City Royals to start it off.
The Yankees enter Monday in third place in the American League East, 3.5 games behind the first place Toronto Blue Jays while the Indians is in third place in the AL Central, six games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers.
Shane Greene will take the mound in his first MLB-career start for the New York while Cleveland counters with Justin Masterson, who is 4-5, 5.16 ERA.
New York made a couple of moves over the weekend and will likely stay busy ahead of the MLB trade deadline on July 31.
"I think we're always searching to make our team better," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said per MLB.com. "And we'll continue to do that."
Masterson has allowed eight earned runs in his last seven innings and has dealt with some right knee soreness, though he should be good to go.
"I think he actually feels OK," Indians manager Terry Francona told MLB.com. "I think it's some command that he's going to have to fight through."
Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury ranks second in the AL in steals (23) while fellow outfielder Brett Gardner is tied for third in the league in triples (six) and leads New York with a .284 batting average. First baseman Mark Teixeira leads the team with 15 homers and 43 RBI.
Indians outfielder Michael Brantley is third in the AL with a .321 batting average and 58 runs scored while his .385 on-base percentage is fifth in the league. Brantley leads Cleveland with 13 homers and 57 RBI thus far this season.
