Tonight at 8:40 p.m. ET, the San Diego Padres (40-49) and Colorado Rockies (37-53) clash at Coors Field in Colorado for the second contest in a three-game set. The game can be live streamed for free here. San Diego fans can hear all of the action on XPRS 1090 while Colorado fans can do the same on KOA 850.

San Diego plays the second contest of a seven-game road trip while Colorado continues a 10-game homestand it is 1-4 on so far and will look to avoid its third straight loss. The Padres topped the Rockies 6-1 in the opening game of this series Monday night.

San Diego enters play in third place in the National League West, 10 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers while Colorado is in last place in the NL West, 13.5 games back.

Tyson Ross (7-8, 2.93 ERA) takes the ball for the Padres while the Rockies counter with Franklin Morales, who is 4-4 with a 5.51 ERA.

Colorado has been plagued by injuries but the team knows if it is going to turn the season around and get out of the NL West cellar the time is now.

"Every series is big generally speaking, but these are big in particular because we need to start winning series," manager Walt Weiss said via MLB.com. "That's the bottom line."

The Rockies will look to turn it around against Ross, who threw his first career shutout last time out against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, in an outing where he allowed no walks and just three hits.

"The thing that really popped out to me was the ball/strike ratio," Padres manager Bud Black told MLB.com. "He repeated his delivery from pitch one to the last pitch of the game. ... He pitched his [butt] off."

Colorado All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will look to spark his team as he has all year. Tulowitzki leads the entire MLB in batting average (.349), runs scored (68), on-base percentage (.442) and OPS (1.044). Tulo also is first in the NL with a .602 slugging percentage, second with 18 homers (tied) and fourth with 174 total bases.

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau is hitting an impressive .315 with 13 homers and is tied for second in the NL with 59 RBI.

San Diego's lineup has been flanked by outfielder Seth Smith, who leads the team with a .273 batting average and nine homers while third baseman Chase Headley is hitting just .229 with six homers but paces the Padres with 27 RBI.

The Padres and Rockies continue their three-game set when they battle tonight at Coors Field in Colorado.
