Giancarlo Stanton Trade Rumors: Marlins Receiving Calls On All-Star Slugger Ahead Of Trade Deadline [VIDEO]

With the MLB All-Star break in full swing, the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline is just around the corner and like every other year around this time, the Miami Marlins are getting calls from a lot of parties that are interested in acquiring slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

The Marlins looked like they may be contenders this season, but they closed out the first half by getting swept by the New York Mets and losing seven of ten games overall. Their three-game sweep in New York dropped the Marlins into fourth place in the National League East, 7.5 games out of the division lead.

This has led to speculation that the Marlins might trade the 24-year-old All-Star outfielder, but it appears as though the team remains reluctant in trading him.

"I think teams thought that by losing a few games we were out of it and we were selling off," Marlins GM Dan Jennings told The Boston Globe. "So sure, I started to get calls and teams presenting scenarios about what it would take, and I said the same thing I've been saying, 'We're not trading him.' "

According to the publication, Jennings didn't specify which teams inquired but the likely candidates include the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels, Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers.

Stanton is eligible to become a free agent after the 2016 season, but the Marlins will likely try to lock him up to a long-term deal before he hits the market.

Things may have to change for Stanton to re-sign with the Marlins as the team hasn't made the playoffs since winning the World Series in 2003 and in five years with the two-time All-Star on the team. Stanton has also expressed frustration with the way the team has a knack to trade away big money players, but the Marlins remain hopeful they can lock him up.

"I think some things have changed for Giancarlo," Jennings said. "He's taken a leadership role here. He knows we're serious about winning and how much we want him to be part of that. He's seen the team come together and the young talent developing around him."

Stanton is hitting .295/.395/.538 and leads the National League with 21 homers and 63 RBI entering the All-Star break, and despite the sinking Marlins getting plenty of calls about him, it appears as though the outfielder will not be on the move this season.
