Greg Hardy, Carolina Panthers Both Punished for Hardy's Conviction of Assault on Female [VIDEO]

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was found guilty Tuesday of assault on a female and communicating threats.

According to ProFootballTalk.NBCSports.com, Judge Becky Thorne Tin gave credence to the testimony of Hardy's accuser, Nicole Holder, despite the fact that Holder admitted to using cocaine on the night of the incident.

Hardy was given a 60-day suspended sentence and 18 months' probation, which ProFootballTalk.NBCSports.com reported he will appeal in hopes of securing a jury trial over the incident.

The domestic violence charges stem from a May 13 situation with Holder, who was his girlfriend at the time. WSOCTV.com reported that the original arrest warrant accuses Hardy of "grabbing victim and throwing her to the floor, throwing into a bathtub, slamming her against a futon, and strangling her."

Hardy's attorney said the woman caused the problems in the domestic incident, citing that she would not leave his apartment.

Both Hardy and the victim were intoxicated at the time of the incident. Hardy's attorney told the judge the victim attacked him.

According to WSOC, Hardy testified in court that "he never wanted to be around Holder that evening. He said every time he tried to open the door to leave during the argument, Holder would slam the door.

"Hardy said Holder balled up her first, started swinging and threatened to beat him up. He described tantrum-like behavior of his ex-girlfriend the night of the dispute. The Panthers' player said Holder hit him in the face. 'I never expected her to go that far,' he testified. Hardy said he is not a violent person.

"Hardy said Holder told him he would have to break her arm when he asked her to leave. He said he never threw her in a bath tub or futon, nor did he choke her or threaten to kill her."

Tuesday was the deadline for the Panthers to renegotiate a long-term deal with Hardy, but agent Drew Rosenhaus sat with Hardy during the trial and was not available, ProFootballTalk.NBCSports.com reported. The Panthers earlier exercised their franchise tag on him and will pay him $13.1 million in 2014.
