Real Madrid Transfer News: James Rodriguez Reaches Agreement With Real Madrid, AS Monaco Offered €85 Million

Having already signed Toni Kroos for a bargain of €24 million, Real Madrid are prepared to break that bank once more. This time, it's the services of James Rodriguez the reigning European champions are chasing.

Real Madrid Purchase Goalkeeper Keylor Navas For €10 Million, Iker Casillas Out?

According to Presse Ocean's Francois Piraux (via Squawka), Los Blancos have already reached an agreement with the Colombian star, offering his parent club, AS Monaco, a staggering €85 million. Per the reports, Monaco president Dmitry Rybolovlev has a few days to accept or reject the offer.

The news should come as no surprise. After enjoying a memorable World Cup—one in which he captured the Golden Boot—James made his career aspirations abundantly clear. "I would go to Madrid with my eyes shut," the 23-year-old told Marca (via CaughtOffside). "I respect other teams a lot, but Madrid is Madrid. To play with CR7 [Cristiano Ronaldo], [Karim] Benzema and [Gareth] Bale is a dream."

That dream carries only one problem: There's only room for so much attacking talent in Carlo Ancelotti's first-choice XI. How many of these signings can actually feature in the middle of the park?

At the base of the midfield, the two holding roles will belong to Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso for the foreseeable future. Should Angel Di Maria depart the Santiago Bernabeu, one attacking midfield role is there for the taking, leaving a heated battle to unfold between Kroos, James and last year's luxurious purchase, Isco.

It's an embarrassment of riches, but finding playing time for three young starlets will prove to be Ancelotti's main concern in the coming season.
