The Media Day brawl Monday between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Daniel Cormier caught the attention of many fans. That's the good news.
It also caught the attention of UFC officials. And that could result in bad news for Jones and Cormier.

The promotion is likely to take action against the two fighters after they engaged in a physical altercation in the lobby of MGM Grand to promote their Sept. 27 title bout at UFC 178.

"This is certainly not a proud moment for the UFC organization," said Kirk Hendrick, the promotion's Chief Legal Officer.
"We expect more from our athletes, especially these two gentlemen, who are very well-trained and highly educated professionals. Their actions were clearly a violation of the UFC's code of conduct."

UFC isn't the only operation looking into the preflight brawl. Nevada State Athletic Commission officials have requested a copy of the fight video. It is not yet clear what action NSAC will take against the fighter, but UFC is expected to work closely with the commission.
"We are going to reserve our right to penalize both fighters after the commission has made a decision. We expect more from our athletes and we are prepared to levy sanctions to reinforce the appropriate behavior," Hendrick said.
Dave Sholler, senior director of public relations for UFC, attempted to keep Jones and Cormier separated but was unsuccessful. He was easily pushed aside by the larger physically fighters.
While each fighter landed several hard punches, which led to both falling off the podium, neither was hurt in the incident.
Jones and Cormier later appeared on ESPN SportsCenter to offer an explanation of the event.
