Gina Carano UFC: 'I Think We're Close' to Signing Carano, Dana White Says [Video]

For the past few months there has been much speculation about Gina Carano signing with the UFC. Dana White previously called negotiations "complicated" but said he believed a deal would get done, and on Saturday he reiterated that stance.

"Yeah it's complicated, but I think we're close," White said on Saturday in Macau during the UFC Fight Night 48 post-fight media scrum. "I think we're close."

Carano, once the face of women's mixed martial arts, hasn't fought since 2009 when she lost the Strikeforce women's featherweight championship to Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino. Carano has made a career in Hollywood as an actor during her time away from the sport, but earlier this year she said she is contemplating making a return to fighting.

White said his idea would be to sign Carano and schedule her for a title fight against UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, a match Rousey said she would welcome. There are questions as to whether Carano can make the 135-pound weight limit as she spent her entire MMA career competing in the 145-pound division, but White and Rousey don't seem to be worried about that.

When asked if he has a date in mind to schedule a fight between Rousey and Carano should the deal get done, White said he wasn't sure.

"I don't know. I had plans, but now I don't know," he said. "We have to see how this thing plays out. Like I said, I wouldn't know more about that until September. First week of September I should have more answers."
