Today at 1:00 p.m. ET the Minnesota Vikings (0-0) will try to open their season with a victory when they head to St. Louis to face the Rams, who may still be reeling from the loss of starting quarterback Sam Bradford for the entire season due to an ACL tear. Bradford's injury was the biggest of the offseason, and forces the Rams to turn to journeyman Shaun Hill. That hasn't fazed head coach Jeff Fisher, or if it has, he isn't letting on.
"I feel really good," Fisher said. "We're ready to play. We've got a young team once again, but we've got a team that has a lot of confidence in itself -- and our starting quarterback as well."
The last time Hill started a game was in 2010, when he made 10 starts for the Detroit Lions. In that time he tossed 16 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, while going 3-7 as the starter.
"Life of a backup, you might not go in for a few years, but you have to stay ready," Hill said. "This is not anything new, it's not anything different. I keep the same mindset I've always had."
The strength of the Rams lies in their defensive line, and they'll be getting after another journeyman quarterback in Matt Cassel.
"I've been through a lot in my career," Cassel said. "I've been through the ups, I've been through the downs. I've been through the highs and the lows. At this point nothing really surprises me in my career. Because of those (experiences), it callouses you to a few different situations that as a younger player I might not have taken it as well."
