C.J. Watson Text Messages: Text Messages From Nets G C.J. Watson To Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s Ex-Girlfriend Led To Mayweather's Assault On Her

Brooklyn Nets guard C.J. Watson is in the news today for reasons other than participating in a crucial Game 6 on the road against the Chicago Bulls. According to Yahoo! Sports, texts from Watson to boxing's pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s then-girlfriend prompted a domestic assault that landed the champion in jail for two months.

Josie Harris, the ex-girlfriend who was assaulted, said Mayweather shouted "Are you having sex with C.J.?" to her. When she responded that she was, Mayweather Jr. punched her in the back of the head, according to the police report from the incident.

Harris, who says the assault took place in front of the three children she has with the boxer, is quoted in the police report saying, "All I heard is, 'Who is C.J. Watson, C.J. Watson the basketball player?' Harris said in the police report. "From there it was just ... bad. I was powerless. He was holding me down. I couldn't fight back. The kids were screaming and crying, 'You're hurting my Mom.' " Harris also claimed Mayweather made a death threat toward her and Watson, saying, "I'm going to kill you and the man you are messing around with. I'm going to have you both disappear."

The Nets will need Watson to be focused on the task at hand, winning Game 6 in a hostile road environment, and not on his name being bandied about in the tabloids. Watson has struggled with his 3-point shot in this series, going 3-for-11 from beyond the arc through the first five games.

During the regular season Watson served as a valuable guard off the Brooklyn bench, capable of filling in as the point guard or shooting guard at any point during games. He started at shooting guard several times toward the end of the season for Joe Johnson, who was battling foot problems. Now, Joe Johnson has referred to himself as a "decoy" due to his plantar fasciitis problems, meaning Watson's role is likely to increase.
