Jonathan Koppenhaver Suicide Attempt: War Machine Addresses Christy Mack in Letter 'I Forgive You, I Hope You Forgive Me' [VIDEO]

After former mixed martial artist War Machine attempted to take his life in his jail cell last week, a suicide note was released on Monday in which he gives his perspective on the day he brutally assaulted ex-girlfriend Christy Mack.

TMZ obtained the letter, which can be read in full here, that he reportedly sent to a friend the day before his suicide attempt. War Machine, born Jonathan Koppenhaver, opens the letter saying, "I always used to say 'You gotta know when the gig is up.' I had a good run."

He then addresses Mack, born Christine Mackinday, directly and says he knew something was different about her when they broke up and got back together. He then tries to justify the assault by blaming her infidelity as the reason for his attack.

"Finding what I found that night was devastating to me, more than you will ever know," he wrote. "Not just the unfaithfulness, but the way you cared for him and protected him. Not a day goes by that I don't wish you weren't hurt that night, I hope you know that."

Later in the letter Koppenhaver asserts that Mackinday's story of the alleged assault is false and her intentions to pursue the charges are misguided.

"I don't know what has happened to her but I'm not gonna watch the woman I love go on the stand and tell painful lies about me," he wrote. "I don't know if her scumbag agent is making her do this for $/publicity, or if the D.A. is just pressuring her/scaring her, or what."

In probably the most shocking statement of the letter, Koppenhaver tells Mackinday, "I forgive you, I hope you forgive me."

The rest of the letter sees Koppenhaver send goodbyes to friends and family members.

TMZ reported Thursday that Koppenhaver tried to hang himself in his jail cell in the Clark County (Nev.) Detention Center on Tuesday night but was stopped by a corrections officer. Sources said an officer passing by Koppenhaver's cell called out to him and he was unresponsive and then found him sitting on the ground with his feet up on the bunk bed.

Koppenhaver faces 32 felony counts, including two counts of attempted murder, and plead not guilty at his first court appearance in September. He is accused of attacking Mackinday and Corey Thomas in her Las Vegas home on Aug. 8. The alleged assault left Mackinday with multiple injuries including a lacerated liver, 18 broken bones and two missing teeth.
