Cleveland Browns Rumors: Mike Pettine Believes Johnny Manziel is Growing Frustrated as Backup; Browns Committed to Brian Hoyer? [VIDEO]

Several rookie quarterbacks have started their NFL careers with their teams, but the one the world is waiting to see has yet to debut and it is started to frustrate him.

Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine spoke to the media this week and said that rookie Johnny Manziel has been uncharacteristically quite the past few weeks and can tell that his lack of playing time is starting to weigh on him.

Kelvin Benjamin Sabotaged Draft Stock to Land with Panthers?

"That's a position that can be frustrating," Pettine said. "He's preparing like a starter. It can happen in a span of one play. He has to be ready to go, has to be prepared. There's no reason to believe that he's not."

"The competitor he is is one of the biggest reasons we brought him here," Pettine said. "If he didn't feel [frustrated], I'd be shocked.”

Pettine admitted that the Browns will never know what they have in Manziel until he gets playing time, but starting quarterback Brian Hoyer is playing well and has earned the right to play to this point.

"That's a question we need to have answered, but it's not something that you can force," Pettine said. "Brian's our starting quarterback. That's a difficult thing to say, 'Let's just go ahead.' All the games are meaningful. If it ever gets to the point where we're potentially up big, down big, or if there's a situation that calls for him to go in, we'll get an opportunity to see him."

Manziel was drafted to be the teams next franchise quarterback and not having a first-round pick play can fault the entire classes development. The Browns traded up to select Manziel with the No. 22 overall selection in May’s draft, but Hoyer remains the starter.

Calvin Johnson's Fantasy Expectations After Week 10

Hoyer is a free agent after this season and the Browns have remained silent on what they plan to do with him come seasons end. Hoyer seems reluctant to sign an extension with the Browns and if the team were to franchise him, the price tag would point toward him starting in 2015 as well.

Hoyer would likely get a solid long term deal if he were to hit the open market and many teams would likely see him as a stopgate and mentor for the next quarterback they draft.
