Houston Texans Fantasy Football: Ryan Mallet Declares He Should Be Named Starting Quarterback on Twitter? [VIDEO]

The Houston Texans have been one of the NFL’s more surprising teams at 4-5, but their quarterback situation is holding them back from being a true playoff contender.

After the Texans' loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, backup quarterback Ryan Mallet took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the quarterback situation.

“I’m staying focused for when the time comes,” Mallett wrote. “Seize the opportunity #justwaiting”

Mallet back tracked to say that he didn’t send the tweet as a call to start, but simply stating that he would be ready if the call were made. Coach Bill O’Brien spoke about the situation before the tweet and said he could be looking for a spark to improve the team.

“I think we have to evaluate everything,” O’Brien said, via Brian Smith of the Houston Chronicle. “I don’t think you can always – and I’ve said this along – I don’t think you can look at one position and put all the blame on that.

“I think we have to look at, as far as what we’re doing offensively, we have to look at … who’s playing what, what positions they’re playing, how we’re getting the ball, how we’re playing at every position, including quarterback — we have to look at all of that.”

Mallet was traded to the Texans from the Patriots earlier this year after months of rumors that Houston wanted the backup quarterback. Mallet was a stud quarterback at Arkansas before off the field issues crushed his draft stock. If Mallet were to get the start, he would be an intriguing option in fantasy football circles based off his lack of a resume.

Mallet should be monitored if you have a desperate quarterback situation and should not be added until he is named the starter and shows his skill set.
